Savour a BIG magnum of a luxurious McLaren vale old vine Shiraz
"Splendidly complex and enticing. 96pt" (Wine Orbit), it boasts Gold, several high point scores and a lot of critical acclaim for its plush, full-bodied palate, balance and length. It’s delicious!
Marcus Ellis, in The Halliday Wine Companion praises its: “cascade of oozingly ripe summer berries, red and black, dark plums and bitter chocolate notes, with hints of allspice, clove, iron and salted licorice. It’s expansively proportioned, unabashedly full bodied and silky…93pts”
For Ray Jordan, WinePilot, there’s: ”“Plenty of plush and opulent old vine McLaren Vale fruit in this excellent classy Shiraz. Dark chocolate and ripe dark inky plum and blackberry merge on the nose. The palate is lavishly rich but brought into focus by the fine tannins and tight grained oak. Has a grainy textural feel balancing the sweet ripe fruit. 93pts.”
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit rscores it a huge 96pts, calling it: “"Splendidly complex and enticing with blackberry, cake spice, vanilla and toasty oak characters with a hint of cocoa nuance. The palate displays excellent concentration and plush texture, beautifully framed by layers of silky tannins, making it opulent and delicious. 96pts" (Sam Kim, Wine Orbit).
Originally founded in 1999, Cape Barren has been sold on but retains an excellent reputation under winemaker Peter Flewellyn. The bottles distinctively all portray birds on the labels.
